Lessons for Horse-Crazy Adults
Horses aren't just for kids.
Some of our adult riders are coming back after taking years off. Some have always wanted to learn but never had the chance. Others already ride and are looking for a barn where they can continue to grow.
No matter where you're starting, you're welcome here.
At Pony Pros, we teach hunter/jumpers and Western riding in a positive, encouraging environment. We want lessons to be something you look forward to every week. We believe people learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions, trying new things, and laughing at themselves once in a while.

Lessons Built Around You
Whether your goal is to:
-
Learn to ride
-
Improve your equitation
-
Start jumping
-
Lease a horse
-
Horse show
-
Or simply spend time with horses...
we'll help you get there at your own pace.

There isn't one path every rider has to follow. Some riders are perfectly happy riding once a week. Others catch the horse bug and want to ride every chance they get. Either way is great.

Ride Year-Round
Our indoor arena means lessons continue through the winter, and our experienced lesson horses make it easy to build confidence as you learn.
If you're ready for more saddle time, we also offer Thoroughbred horse leases so you can ride more often without the responsibility of owning a horse.

More Than Just Riding
Learning to ride is about more than steering a horse around the arena.
You'll learn horsemanship, improve your communication with horses, gain confidence, and become part of a friendly community of people who simply enjoy being around horses.
If showing interests you, we'll help you prepare. If it doesn't, that's perfectly fine too. There's no pressure to compete. We want you to enjoy horses in whatever way makes you happiest.

We'd Love to Meet You
If you've been thinking about taking riding lessons—or getting back into riding after a break—come visit Pony Pros.
We'll show you around, introduce you to the horses, answer your questions, and help you find the right lesson program.
We think you'll feel right at home.
Good horsemanship. Correct riding. Happy horses.
We teach it all.
Whether you're learning to ride for the first time, getting back into horses after years away, or looking to improve your skills, we'd love to help.
At Pony Pros, we teach both the horse and the rider. You'll learn correct position, effective aids, and how to communicate with the horse in a way the horse understands. We spend a lot of time teaching horse psychology and behavior because when you understand how horses think, riding becomes easier, safer, and a whole lot more fun.
Our lessons are positive, encouraging, and horse-centered. We don't yell. We don't shame people for making mistakes. Riding is challenging enough already. Our job is to explain things clearly, give you lots of opportunities to practice, and help you improve every week.
Lessons include fun exercises that build balance, coordination, timing, feel, and fitness while helping both horse and rider gain confidence together. As your skills grow, so do your opportunities. Riders can lease school horses, participate in clinics, horse shows, schooling days, trail rides, and other special events throughout the year.
How Often Should I Ride?
If your schedule allows, we recommend riding twice a week. Riders who ride more often develop muscle memory, coordination, balance, stamina, and 'feel' much more quickly. They also tend to progress faster because each lesson builds on the last.
If once a week is what fits your schedule, that's perfectly fine too. You'll still enjoy learning and spending time with the horses, and you can always add another lesson or a lease day later if you decide you'd like to progress more quickly.
English Riding Lessons
Our English program focuses on lower-level dressage and hunter/jumpers with an emphasis on correct fundamentals. We teach riders to develop a strong leg, balanced seat, soft hands, and effective aids before asking for more advanced skills.
As riders progress, we introduce poles, gymnastic lines, and full courses that teach rhythm, balance, straightness, and how to see a distance. We spend a lot of time refining equitation because good position makes communication with the horse clearer and riding safer for both horse and rider.
School horses are available, and lease opportunities are offered for riders who want additional saddle time.
Western Riding Lessons
Our Western program includes general Western riding plus working equitation, cowboy dressage/western dressage, and reining fundamentals.
We focus on good horsemanship, correct cues, and helping riders understand how horses learn. Instead of simply teaching you where to put your hands and feet, we'll teach you why each aid works and how to communicate with the horse.
Whether your goal is recreational riding or becoming a better horseman, you'll learn to ride with fairness, consistency, and feel while building a willing partnership with your horse.
Opportunities Beyond Weekly Lessons
Pony Club Opportunities
Many people are surprised to learn that adults can participate in Pony Club too. Pony Club is a great way to build your horsemanship, riding skills, and confidence while learning alongside other horse enthusiasts. Members work through progressive certifications covering riding, horse management, and stable skills. Whether you're interested in improving your knowledge or simply enjoy learning in a structured, supportive environment, Pony Club offers a fun way to continue your education.

Horsemanship Classes
Riding is only part of becoming a good horseperson. Once or twice a month, we offer horsemanship classes where riders can learn the skills that don't always fit into a weekly lesson. Topics may include grooming, tacking up, horse behavior, nutrition, blanketing, wrapping legs, first aid, trailer safety, tack care, stable management, and other everyday horse care skills. These classes give riders extra hands-on experience and a better understanding of how to care for horses both in and out of the saddle.

IEA Opportunities
Many adults remember riding on an IHSA team in college and are excited to learn there's now a similar opportunity just for them. The IEA Adult Rider Division gives amateur riders ages 21 and older the chance to compete in a catch-riding format, riding horses provided by the host barn rather than their own. Success comes from good equitation, adaptability, and solid horsemanship—not owning an expensive horse.
Whether you're getting back into riding after a break or looking for a new challenge, Adult IEA is a fun way to set goals and enjoy the sport. Pony Pros offers coaching for Hunt Seat IEA riders, helping you prepare for competition while building confidence and refining your skills along the way.
