Farm Fridays

Chickens, Goats, Horses - so much fun!

A program for Central Oregon Homeschool Families

Each week come to the farm for a Riding Lesson plus Farm Fun!

12pm-3pm on Fridays

Located on the East side of Bend: 21820 Horse Butte Trail, Bend

What’s Included Each Month:

  • 👩🏼‍🌾 Joyful farm experience with various animals (scroll down to see pics!)

  • 🐎 Weekly Riding Lessons - horses sized for rides up to 165lbs

  • 💻 Weekly Virtual Horse Classes, 45 minutes each, with a great teacher

  • ✍🏻 Printables, worksheets, quizzes related to class

  • *If kids are super into horse knowledge, they can choose to do a trivia competition in March in Silverton, OR. We will help them form teams - parents are welcome to be on a team too!

Example Activities:

  • Walking goats

  • Cleaning horse paddocks

  • Throwing hay to the horses for lunch

  • Collecting eggs

  • Feeding the chickens special treats

  • Riding on the trail or being led on a horse (for beginners)

  • Practicing haltering and leading a horse

  • Learning skills for trailering a horse

  • Learning about Goat 4H

  • Learning equine science

*During activities we will share our knowledge about different farm animals, keeping things conversational and educational

Pricing:

  • Yes, we accept allotment money from the charter schools

  • We offer a substantial discount from our regular pricing to bring opportunity and community to our fellow homeschool families

  • Please choose your price (based on 4.3 weeks in a month):

    • $320 - standard pricing ($75 a lesson)

    • $195 - community fund pricing ($45 a lesson)

  • Right now we are planning to run this program on a monthly basis. We may end when homeschool skiing starts or continue through winter if there is desire.  We do not have an indoor arena at this location so all riding will take around the farm on grass, in the sage brush, or on nearby trails.

  • No class Oct 24 due to travel

 

What to Bring:

  • Helmets provided, but bring a horse helmet if you have one (no bike helmets).

  • Pants and closed-toed shoes required.

  • Boots required for riders progressing to riding with stirrups

Rider Details

  • Ages 3 and up for riding but all ages welcome for farm time

  • Minimum 4 kids to run a session, maximum 8 kids per cohort.

  • Our horses can fit riders up to 165lbs but everyone is welcome for groundwork lessons

  • Students grouped by age and experience.

  • Please note: we are not trained or insured for therapeutic riding.

 

Virtual Horse Classes
Fun, interactive Zoom sessions covering horse care, anatomy, equipment, and behavior.

  • 45 minutes each

  • Recorded for busy families

  • Attendance optional

  • Coursework is targeted for 7-14, but we will do our best to help with any age requested

  • Taught by a teacher with over 300 5-star Outschool reviews

 

P.E. Component

  • Kids (and moms) will get a lot of steps in on the farm!

  • Riding

  • Vaulting barrel practice & mat drills

  • Conditioning for stronger riding

  • Gymnastics-style fun

Volunteers Needed
1–2 helpers make the magic possible—thank you in advance!

Friendships that Last: If students continue after the first 4 weeks, we’ll keep cohorts together so kids can grow lasting friendships alongside their horsemanship skills.

Please note that the animals we have change seasonally due to 4H Fair, shelter / pasture availability, and other needs we have to balance our farm. Horses and chickens will always be there, though!
